This painting started it’s life as a friends paint and sip class/ art experience with her daughter. As she was intending on disposing of it, and it was a quality canvas, she offered it to me instead.
 
I loved some of the coloured abstract patterns and details that formed the original image. So, rather than gessoing over the whole image and starting again, I incorporated the original patterns into my background. I glazed over the whole canvas with a magenta to bring it’s colour up. Then I painted in the flowerts, using a palette knife, to push myself to be looser and more expressive in my markmaking.
 
If you look closely in the bottom right hand corner, you can still see the initials of my friend there.
