Mycelium Connection

Mycelium Connection

Mycelium Connection - Original Acrylic and Mixed Media on Canvas

Mycelium is a thread-like part of a fungus that connects trees and other plants in a forest. This network allows trees to share resources, recycle nutrients, decompose organic matter, transfer information about pests and disease, as well as transferring nutrients and water.

Forests have complex ecosystems that could not survive without this vast network of fungus below ground, connecting all the plants in the forest. Forest trees have rich symbiotic relationships not only with each other, but also with the mycorrhizal network.

I am fascinated with the human like qualities trees share and the intelligence of their connected communities. This is why we feel so connected in a forest, as our brain has evolved to respond unconsciously to chemical markers and scents the forest emits.
